Grading Policy
Each student will be assessed in 5 areas (agenda, time management, organization, participation, applied skills). They will receive a grade of 1, 2, or 3 for each section, allowing up to 15 points a day (not all areas are graded every day). At the end of the week, their daily grades will be averaged for a weekly grade. I understand this can sound confusing. If you have further questions about grading please do not hesitate to contact me and I can show you a rubric!
Class Routine
You may be wondering what a typical class day looks like. Students are expected to bring in work from their classes to complete in Study Skills. This can be homework, projects, unfinished assessments, or materials to study for an upcoming assessment. About twice a week, I start class with a mini-lesson prior to the students completing their independent work. I check agendas daily to ensure students are recording their assignments, and check backpacks as well to make sure students are staying organized.
What is a Mini-Lesson?
Mini-lessons are just that! Short lessons (about 15 minutes) where I discuss various study or work habits. These happen about twice a week. The topics of mini-lessons range from finding a "study space", to time management, to note-taking, to essay writing, to finding out what type of learner your child is. Below I have a more in-depth look at the mini-lessons we have done first semester.
